England has Another Earthquake

27 02 2008

The Twitter tweets came in from England: “We had an earthquake!” Californian friends who understand only too well tweeted back “how strong was it?” “how long was it?” “are you ok?” “did it shake or roll or jolt?”

The earthquake struck early Wednesday at about 1 a.m. and was reportedly felt across large parts of the country, geological officials and the BBC reported. According to the U.S. Geological Survey, it measured 4.7 in magnitude and was centered about 125 miles north of London.

The British Geological Survey, however, recorded it at 5.2.

Last April an earthquake hit Kent. The BGS records approximately 200 earthquakes in the UK each year, although only 25 are felt by people.

Edit: I’ve added personal videos from people who experienced the quake,  in the sidebar.
