Students Create Volcano

6 06 2008

It was partly for love of science, and partly an attempt to get into the Guiness Book of World Records.

Students at Mount Hood Community College In Oregon created a 20-foot-tall volcano, trying to make the record book for the world’s largest vinegar and baking soda volcan

“We want more scientific careers out there. America’s kind of lacking in the fight for scientific survival. So we really want people to get out there and get scientific degrees,” Science Club President Theo Malone said.

“Project volcano” involved almost 100 pounds of baking soda and 150 gallons of vinegar to create the eruption. The students are not sure yet if they will make the Guinness Book since there was no previous record.
